Description
Cooper's Hawk are common throughout Ohio and reside in woodlands. Their wingspan is actually rather short which gives them the ability to chase prey through the trees of the forests. They have been known to even run on the ground in pursuit! Nestlings have gray eyes that turn bright yellow at about 1 year of age and finally become dark red in adulthood.
This bird was so intimidating with his red eyes and large yellow claws. I know he was hungry and hoping his dinner would just be 'delivered' to him . . . . but I protect my smaller bird friends...... so I let this guy rest for a few moments and in spite of my husband's comment that big birds need to eat too, I bravely chased him off my feeder!
