Description
This is the ventral view of a beautiful American Painted Lady butterfly enjoying a tall purple verbena in my backyard garden in Ohio. This was taken my first summer of really looking for and focusing on the lovely little butterflies that visited my yard. That summer there were so many butterflies and really gorgeous ones in very good shape. Unfortunately, as years go by, there seems to be fewer and fewer and the ones that do visit seem to often be a bit battle scarred. Hopefully the weather will get milder and give them all a chance!....and hopefully we humans will do our part to help them!

The lighting is so clear and the colors are almost surreal! Great job.....! f/v

Thank you, Nancy. This was taken the first year I really started taking butterfly photos in my backyard. It is natural light and just was fortunate I could line this up for such a clean background!
