You may look at this and think it is a very pretty beetle . . . It looks like a beetle . . . . but it is an Ailanthus Webworm Moth! It does a very interesting thing with its wings: it tucks and rolls! They are quite small and pretty hard to spot . . . but when you do see it, you are certainly taken by the intricate beauty of the patterns on their wings. I never did see this little one fly, but it would sure be a treat to see the wings open I'm sure!
I spent several minutes taking pictures of my new friend before reality called me to take care of responsibilities . . . when I returned later he was gone. I have a series of 6 images of my time spent with an Ailanthus Webworm Moth. You can see all of these together in my Series Gallery.
