It was not a convenient thing to do. It was hard. It was a long journey and it took a long time. It was uncomfortable. But they believed and they followed the Star.

I have a very favorite Christmas song that we sang in our Methodist church 20 years ago. I loved it then, but have not heard it sung in church since then. I am having trouble finding it online and so I am writing down the words as I remember them (with a few updates, that I think you will spot easily!)

ONCE UPON A COLD DECEMBER

Once upon a cold December many long years ago
Three important kings set out to travel a year or so
Over mountains through deep valleys traveling awfully slow
They took time to seek the Savior a long time ago

With no heaters, Howard Johnsons, nothing to ease the way
No GPS, no Google maps or help from the AAA,
No galoshes, scarves, umbrellas for a rainy day
They took time & pains to find him, the hardest way.

What we learn from these three wise men is that we must take time;
Time to follow, time to find him through all the grit and grime.
There are valleys we will enter, there are hills to climb
We can find him and adore him, if we take time!
