Description
My dad loved to golf. I didn't know this until recently, but he used to golf with his brothers and dad. I think those were some of dad's fondest memories of his youth. Just months after my mom and dad were married he golfed with his father and brothers. His dad then went to his sign shop to check a few things. He had a heart attack and died that evening. I actually still have the score card from that day. So I think dad always felt close to his dad on the course, and as years passed to his late brothers too. Dad golfed up until 6 months before he had a stroke and died at the age of 85. Last week, my brother, my sister and I walked around one of dad's favorite courses, Black Hawk Golf Course in Galena, Ohio. My brother used to golf a little bit with dad, but never caught the love of the game. I used to love being dad's caddy. There is really nothing better than a beautiful golf course on a warm summer day spent with your dad! We relived wonderful times.
The past years, dad golfed with the same group of friends once a week. They had a custom that each person could take one "mulligan" a round, but when they did, it was required for them all to sing their original song, "The Mulligan Song." They would sing it and dance around the ball before the player took his shot. I may have looked very silly when I did the same thing. I'm pretty sure it made dad smile!
