Description
I was surrounded by several pink Crabapple trees that were heavy with bright pink blossoms. When standing under the branches and looking up, it was impossible to even see the sky through all these lovely flowers! They demanded attention, but then I noticed this quiet little scene peaking around one tree trunk. This tiny shoot had grown out under the canopy and silently bloomed in its own little place. As a middle child, I understood this. My older sister, of course was the leader and the first gets a lot of attention. My younger brother was (have to admit really adorable) and as the first son, he got a lot of attention. Really, that was fine with me. I just bloomed where I was and my wonderful mom and dad always saw me too.
I think this is a Prairifire Crabapple tree (Malus x 'Prairifire') which is one of the showiest trees you can plant in your yard. Although it bears tiny cherry-like fruits, which are relished by birds, Prairifire Crabapple is prized more for its stunning spring display of dark-pink to red blossoms. These trees have a host of Benefits in addition to Spring beauty. After the flowers fade, Prairifire Crabapple is still colorful. Newly emerging foliage is purplish before turning green with reddish veins and stems. In autumn, the leaves turn orange for an end-of-the season color pop. I especially love the fact that birds love these trees. The apples are the size of cherries, only about one-half inch in diameter, and birds love them! Prairifire Crabapple will be a flurry of activity when the fruits mature in summer.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
