Description
God works through man's hands. This beautiful wooden Creche was carved by my dad, George Wood. I am not sure how long it took to carve, but his notes show that he finished carving in June of 1991. He was 63 years old. I have a note that he wrote describing his work:
"This carving is a composite of Basswood boards approximately 3/4" thick. The pieces were made into a block by drilling holes near the bottom of the pieces and inserting dowel rods through the six pieces. The block could be taken apart and work could be done on pieces 2 & 3 or 4 & 5 etc. The dowels do not go through the front piece or the back piece and therefore do not show. This enabled me to work on the back side of pieces. When the carving was completed the dowel rods were glued in place. George Wood"
If you look very closely I have put stars in the black sky and one a little bigger and brighter than the others.
You can find other versions of Dad's Creche in my "Series" Gallery and also in the gallery called "Dad."
