Description
I love Oakleaf Hydrangeas and I changed this image to give it a soft dreamy kind of quality and added a border to give it a vintage feel. This image is of the Hydrangea quercifolia or known by the common name: "Snow Queen"
This cultivar produces 8-inch-long, conical flower heads from early summer on. In addition to the lovely creamy white flowers, I especially love the distinct, deeply lobed leaves that look like they belong on an Oak tree! So, in the summer, they provide lovely lush greens and clean creamy whites that then turn to outstanding fall colors when the flowers take on purplish-pink hues with burgundy leaves.
This exceptional shrub is native to the southeastern U.S., where it is found growing along stream banks. It is equally stunning in a mixed border or woodland setting. The flowers are good for cutting and drying.
This image was taken at the Whetstone Park of Roses in Clintonville (Columbus) Ohio. The original shot and variations of it can be found in my Series Gallery. If you ever have free time while in Columbus, you will not go wrong taking a stroll through this lovely park! It is free!
