Description
This is a caterpillar of a Virginian Tiger Moth or also known as a Yellow Woolybear Moth. This definitely looks like a Wooly Bear caterpillar! The formal name of the butterfly is Spilosoma virginica (Fabricius, 1798.) It belongs to the family: Erebidae and the subfamily: Arctiinae.
The moth is a beautiful pure white with large black eyes and feathery antennae. Its face has a touch of yellow on its 'chin' and cute little black spots on the abdomen.

Great catch, Karen! Caterpillars always remind me of Burl Ives singing "The Ugly Bug Ball" in the movie "Summer Magic". : ) v/f

I must start taking longer walks into wilder places. Wow! Could the hairs be any longer, or standing at attention any stronger? This feller is adorable! Black trim as well! You really captured it all. F/V

Thank you, Nancy. This guy was actually just hanging out in my garden one warm summer day! I do love its color!
