Description
I love Giant Swallowtail butterflies! As you can tell from its name, they are big. But big butterflies are also more skittish than their smaller relatives. They don't like people sneaking up on them, and many of the ones I see bare the scars of when they weren't aware enough...missing parts of wings...but still managing to fly. They are delicate creatures, but strong willed it seems and determined to live. This particular Giant Swallowtail was quite a beauty! The ventral view that you see here reveals the soft creamy yellows and blue and orange bands of color. The dorsal side of the Giant's wings is mostly black with a big yellow design that looks like a big happy smile when they fly up in the air! A wonderful sight!
