I painted this piece a long time ago when I was in high school. I am painting a few new works for the nursery of a coming grandchild and that reminded me of this one. Now I am also looking back through my dad's work that he did at the Columbus College of Art and Design when I was just a baby. I can see my dad's influence quite clearly in a very tangible way. I sure hope I reflect him in many other ways as well!
This is an example of Visual Closure in artwork. This capability is a very important development in young brains. Visual Closure is the ability to visualize a complete whole when given incomplete information or a partial picture. This skill helps children read and comprehend quickly; their eyes don't have to individually process every letter in every word for them to quickly recognize the word by sight.
So while this is a fun image, it can also help young minds develop as they ponder what they are seeing!
