Description
As the title gives away, this is one of a series taken on a very cold, but sunny, Ohio winter's day.
My dad was a 'glass man.' For almost thirty years he worked at Federal Glass in Columbus, Ohio. He started out in the Art department, first designing the packaging to hold the glassware for sale and then moving up to actually designing some of the beautiful tableware that people still enjoy today, even thought the plant closed in the late 1970s. Part of his job entailed traveling to Europe to see hand-blown glass and styles there. He would come home with beautiful pieces of glass artwork to serve as inspiration. He won some awards for some of the innovations and styles he created (with the help of his co-workers he would insist I add!) So, growing up I would enjoy the sparkling beauty that would be carefully displayed around our small home.
Now, many of those treasures brighten my home and on this day, they literally did brighten the windowsill with lovely splashes of reflected color washing across it. The golden pitcher is especially dear to me, as my dad designed it and his friends at Blenko Glass created it from his vision.
When I see reflections and shadows, I always think of the impact our lives have outside of ourselves. Most times we are totally unaware of the reflections we leave behind us, but I sure hope they are beautiful rainbow ones!
I really appreciate you taking time to look at my artwork. Thank you so much!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
