Description
This is a sepia image of a great ape at the Columbus Zoo, sitting and examining something of great interest. This huge creature came over to sit in the shade and escape the hot sunshine. After looking at whatever it was, it was time for a nap in the cool confines of this giant cement circle.
Jack Hanna made the Columbus Zoo what it is today! I was young when he came to our city and transformed the Zoo to a place anyone living or visiting Columbus must see! The doctor who delivered three of my daughters was a friend of Jack's and he was the doctor the zoo would call when a gorilla was giving birth! So on my grand-daughter's first birthday what better place to go? My daughter knew her little one would really love the monkey and ape area (her favorite stuffed animal is "Monkey") and she was right. As we stood watching, this gorilla stood up in the sunny area and gathered a large armful of the straw material and headed straight for the concrete circle. After carefully laying out a mat of straw, the gorilla laid down and was asleep in minutes. A great spot to be in the shade and away from our prying eyes!
