Description
I am looking through old images from a few years ago and pulling out ones I had forgotten about. I am no expert on Dragonflies., but I really like this gren-eyed beauty resting on top of a purple Verbena flower in my Ohio summer garden. I do know that Dragonflies generally rest with their wings spread open, while Damselflies rest with them folded upright above their bodies like proper ladies! I think this is a Treetop Emerald Dragonfly (Somatochlora provocans.) I love the emerald green eyes and the lovely striped pattern on their bodies.
It is a member of the Corduliidae Family. Dragonflies in this family are large, usually between 1.5 and 3 inches in length. They have bright green eyes, and many species are black with metallic green or yellow markings. Green-eyed skimmers and emerald dragonflies are found near wooded ponds and streams.
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Hexapoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Odonata
Family: Corduliidae
That information is provided for those who love science, I just think they are cool looking!!
Thank you so much for taking time to look through my images and collections. I really appreciate your time!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
