Abstracts are about the reality of feelings. All abstract artwork done today has roots that lead back to Wassily Kandinsky ( born Dec 4, 1866 - died December 13, 1944.) He was a Russian abstract painter and art theorist who is credited with creating the first purely abstract piece of art.
In addition to being a leader of the abstract movement, he created several theoretical writings, about his work, as well as other pieces which were created during this period. He wrote about form and color, seeing these as not just the result of a simple arbitrary decision by the artist, but rather coming from an inner experience which the artist was feeling. The abstract movement developed a style of art which dove deeper than the canvas, and allowed artists to create something based on inner feeling and emotion, as opposed to simply depicting what they saw in nature around them.
