Description
Grief #2
Grief is looking at the world
From a dark place
Through windows of despair
Seeing the world outside
Blurred, gray and muffled
The same but so different
The world keeps going on
But the darkness is in slow motion.
Grief is a cold hand on the shoulder
It is a violent shake
And a heavy shroud
It is a robber in the night
That breaks the still inky quiet
With tearing of the heart
With whys and why nots
And what ifs
Grief is knowing you are alone
Together for so long
But now only one
Grief is feeling others' pain
Feeling connected to all life
Death reveals life more clearly
It is dark and cold
But illuminates the light of life.
Grief is being thankful
For the life that
Touched yours with such
Grace and love and honesty
For laughter and lectures
For leading by example
For tender guidance
For enduring love

I wrote this and took this picture a month after my dad's death. Funny how it really brings back to me how I felt those years ago. Art is a release and expression of humanity. I celebrate and miss my dad every single day! (2019)

Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!

Beautifully expressed Karen--the perfect picture, a cold gray day, to go along with the cold gray feeling of grief. Wishing you and your family peace and healing in the new year.

Ah Karen...your writing is as profound and beautiful as your photography. You capture in words and in images what many of us feel in our hearts. Thank you. And yes, I have found gratitude is the place where peace can be found..it is true. Peace be with you also my dear friend. Warm hugs...L
