It is difficult to write a description of an abstract piece of art. All abstract artwork done today has roots that lead back to Wassily Kandinsky ( born Dec 4, 1866 - died December 13, 1944.) He was a Russian abstract painter and art theorist who is credited with creating the first purely abstract piece of art.
In addition to being a leader of the abstract movement, he created several theoretical writings, about his work, as well as other pieces which were created during this period. He wrote about form and color, seeing these as not just the result of a simple arbitrary decision by the artist, but rather coming from an inner experience which the artist was feeling. The abstract movement developed a style of art which dove deeper than the canvas, and allowed artists to create something based on inner feeling and emotion, as opposed to simply depicting what they saw in nature around them.
Wassily Kandinsky spent several years creating abstract work, and worked using deep colors and worked on his form, observing not only his work, but that of other artists as well. He noted the effects of color, on the senses, as well as on the piece as a whole. This subjective approach at viewing art allowed him to not only look at his work, but that of other artists of the time, to interpret the meaning based on the emotion which was depicted through the use of deep and rich color and form.
So talking about an abstract piece is difficult. . . . it needs to be a discussion . . . with someone else . . . or maybe with yourself. It is an artwork dealing with reality . . . but a reality that one does not SEE, but rather a reality that is FELT.
