Description
My Ohio garden may appear to many a bit overgrown. I love wildflowers and anything that attracts birds, bees or butterflies. Early in the Spring I tend to scatter seeds and try to keep the little seedlings watered until they are strong enough to be left on their own. Now, in early August, I enjoy the beauty of those little tiny seeds as they burst into bloom. They fill in spaces between the hardy perennials. And so, I stand out in my garden and wait.
Butterflies flutter around, trying to coax me into chasing them about. There are a couple of Monarchs, Pearl Crescents, a black Swallowtail, an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and another pair of Giant Swallowtail butterflies on this particular day. So I stood still and waited. I knew those bright Zinnia flowers would be too much for most of them to ignore. Suddenly, a lovely little Hummingbird was hovering right in front of me. She hovered, looking right at me. We seemed to come to an agreement pretty quickly. She went about her business drinking from flower after flower and I stood as quietly as I could clicking my shutter as fast as possible.
Occasionally, one of the many butterflies would flutter over and there were times I just stood and enjoyed this scene in front of me.
This is a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris.) The male has a ruby-red throat, a white collar, an emerald green back and a forked tail, while the female has a green back and tail feathers that are banded white, black and grey-green.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
