Description
I took a walk and this is what I saw.
I have always enjoyed the beauty of trees and tree parts. On this particular day the trunks were still wet from the previous night's rain and so their colors were a bit deeper. I've always loved the look of lichens growing on bark. I looked at this and instantly saw the image and composition that I wanted . . . . but I did not see the wonderful little Ladybug until I looked at this on my computer screen. What a lovely little stowaway to my scene! I just love and am so thankful for all the gifts this world has to offer us!
I believe this is Physcia adscendens lichen, also called Rosette lichen. I read that although many people fear this growth may damage their tree, it is, in fact, harmless. With that knowledge though comes a word of warning. Lichen is more likely to grow on a plant or tree that is in distress! So If you see it on one of your trees, you might just want to have a quick check on its health!
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!

What a beautiful composition and presentation of this lichen filled bark Karen!! i love looking at lichen on trees too and i always see endless abstract paintings out of it. really love the colours and textures in this image. it is a different kind of beauty, yet it still make viewers humble for the magic of Creation. love how the red ladybug is photobombing this wonderful capture so softly!! :) L/F
