Description
I was lucky enough to sneak up on this shy beautiful creature with my macro lens without scaring her away. Believe it of not! The name of this little yellow butterfly is: Little Yellow!! I thought it was some type of Sulphur butterfly. I had it identified by Butterflies and Moths of North America and learned about the Little Yellow Butterfly!
The scientific names is: Pyrisitia lisa. Identified by Boisduval & Leconte in 1830. It is a member of the Pieridae family and subfamily: Coliadinae. It is a small creature, with a wing span of 1 1/4 - 1 3/4 inches (3.2 - 4.4 cm).
I love the soft pastel lemon yellow coloring of these butterflies. . . . I have not seen any others, but this one. I am wondering, if through the years, I have seen more of these and just assumed it to be a Clouded Sulphur. I am glad to know that next time, I need to pay attention and get more pictures, because it just may be a Little Yellow Butterfly! Now, you too, can impress others with your butterfly knowledge!
