Description
Nigella Damascene is the scientific name, Love in a Mist is the common name of this delicate little beauty that peaks its head up all over my garden in Ohio. It has these light blue flowers that seem to float among the feathery foliage of this annual bloom that is a very healthy reseeding plant from year to year.
There are several tales of this little flower's power and symbolism. The Nigella flower can be found in areas of southwest Asia, southern Europe and north Africa.....and Ohio!
The magical associations with the nigella flower carry over into its symbolism. These blooms are often said to represent the chains that bind people together, usually in love, but sometimes in bitterness. They are also said to express perplexity and intrigue, and are often given as gifts to tell the recipient that the giver is fascinated, or simply has a crush.
