Description
In spite of how much I love the actual colors of this cupola, roof top and the sky, I have to admit I love it in black and white!
George Washington did not sit idling by at any point in his life it seems. Besides being a brave and strong leader as a General and our first President, he was very involved with the architectural designs of his Mt Vernon home and the landscape and gardens surrounding it.
The mansion is truly a beautiful piece of architecture. Topped off with this magnificent cupola! Washington wanted to create a central point for the structural symmetry of his home. In addition to the design element it also served as a natural provider of light to the central staircase. The octagonal tower with its windows open also created a draft through the Mansion.
Several years after the installation of the cupola, Washington George Washington designed and ordered the dove of peace weathervane. He is quoted to say he: "should like to have a bird...with an olive branch in its Mouth." And so this great man of American History, a General of battle, crowned his home with a lasting sign of Peace.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
