Description
We had a Crabapple tree in our backyard when I was young. I remember the mess of all those tiny apples falling on our patio and Mom and Dad sweeping and sweeping to get all those little fruits picked up. (Yeah, I helped occasionally, but looking back now I am sorry I didn't do more.) I thought that tree was such a nuisance 90% of the year . . . . but, there was always the glorious few weeks in late April and early May. Our family room had big picture windows that were filled with this bright pink of Crabapple blooms. Those couple of weeks made that tree all worthwhile.
Now, I have the best of all worlds. I can take a short walk to this area in my neighborhood! I can stand and breathe in the perfume of those blooms and my eyes can drink in the delicious rich pinks . . . and then I can continue on my way!
I think this is a Prairifire Crabapple tree (Malus x 'Prairifire') which is one of the showiest trees you can plant in your yard. Although it bears tiny cherry-like fruits, which are relished by birds, Prairifire Crabapple is prized more for its stunning spring display of dark-pink to red blossoms. These trees have a host of Benefits in addition to Spring beauty. After the flowers fade, Prairifire Crabapple is still colorful. Newly emerging foliage is purplish before turning green with reddish veins and stems. In autumn, the leaves turn orange for an end-of-the season color pop. I especially love the fact that birds love these trees. The apples are the size of cherries, only about one-half inch in diameter, and birds love them! Prairifire Crabapple will be a flurry of activity when the fruits mature in summer.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!

This is just lovely, Karen! I really like the saturated color contrast between the trees and the grass. Super! L/F -- Joe.

Thanks, Joe . . . the overcast sky helped the colors to really pop . . . this is very much close to how it looked!

What a beautiful capture of these Crabapple trees, Karen. Yes we have one in our front yard. They can get very messy! But they are, still, so pretty! V/F
