Description
Poppies are beautiful flowers from a distance in a field and the closer you get, the prettier they become! I took pictures from afar and walked closer and closer. They stand tall seeming to glow above the greenery below them. The crepe-like coral colored petals are delicate and sunlight shines gently through them. When I get closer I can stand over the flower and look down inside those lovely petals to find this geometric design and abstract beauty. In reality I am looking at the place where opium is produced! Surrounding the pistil are stalk-like stamens (the stalks are termed filaments), capped by lozenge-shaped anthers where pollen is produced. I don't really understand how this works or the science of a poppy, but I see this tremendous beauty . . . and that is all I need to know.
