Description
Beau was mom and dad's most beloved pet. They got him late in their lives, knowing he would be their last dog. They loved him so and spoiled him to no end! Dad walked Beau every singe day, twice a day, rain, shine, snow, heat or sickness, until the day Beau died. Luckily, I had taken some pictures of Beau just a few months earlier and had given them to mom and dad.
When Beau died, my dad told me he was going to draw a picture of Beau from my photo. Dad was 85 and had terrible tremors in his hands, so I didn't think he could pull it off, and so I ordered a framed print of my photo to give to them.
About a week later, I visited them and dad unveiled his pastel drawing of Beau. It was already carefully framed and ready to hang in the lobby of their retirement home. My expensive custom framed photo paled in comparison to his work of love.
He had written this note to go with it:
Beau
I came to Willow Brook in 2010 with my owners George and Lura and enjoyed my stay here very much. Everyone liked me and thought I was handsome and I liked everyone here, too! Thank you all for being so nice! George decided to do a pastel drawing of me so that they would have me with them until whenever they decide to join me.

Six months later dad died and 100 days after that so did mom. They are buried together.
Beau was A Shetland Sheepdog; often known as the Sheltie. They are a breed of herding dog. Less favored nicknames are the Toy Collie and the Miniature Collie. They are usually small dogs, but Beau was quite large in stature and personality. They come in a variety of colors, such as sable, tri-color, and blue merle. They are very intelligent, vocal, excitable, energetic dogs who are always willing to please and work hard. They are partly derived from dogs used in the Shetland Isles for herding small sheep or, just as likely, for chasing sheep and birds out of the crofter's gardens, along with several very small or toy breeds such as the King Charles Spaniel or the Pomeranian. The breed was formally recognized by The Kennel Club in 1909.
