Description
The Red Admiral butterfly (Vanassa atalanta) can be found in all 88 counties of Ohio. They are 'common' in urban areas, gardens, woodland edges and fields near woods. This series was taken in August of 2016, but I usually see these butterflies earlier in the summer; May, June and July. They are a variety of 'Brushfooted' butterflies who are attracted to beautiful garden flowers, fruit and mud puddles (which act as a drinking fountain for delicate butterflies!) They are fast and erratic fliers which makes them a challenge to photograph, unless they are really intent on the nectar of a buddleia (butterfly bush.)
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
