Description
Franklin Park is located just east of downtown Columbus, Ohio.
In 1852, an eight acre county fairground - The Franklin County Agricultural Society Grounds, opened on this land. Fairs were held here for 30 years as the grounds were expanded to 100 acres. Urbanization of surrounding lands forced the County to abandon the land in 1884 and establish new fairgrounds at a different site.
The Ohio General Assembly passed a resolution in 1885 that permitted use of the land as a public park to be administered by the City of Columbus: Franklin Park. It is also the home of the Franklin Park Conservatory which features wonderful events throughout the year, including my favorite, the annual "Blooms and Butterflies."
It is such a lovely jewel for the local residents and is used by many people every day.
This version of my "Red Hammock in Franklin Park" is a nod to the historic importance of this wonderful place!
Please see other images of the park in the Franklin Park Gallery and also in my Series Gallery.
Thank you so much for taking time to look through my images and collections. I really appreciate your time!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
