Description
My mom was a positive person. She was very athletic, intelligent, and kind. She was a person of deep faith. She was a bit of a perfectionist, an organizer and definitely one who spoke out when she saw things in the world that were unfair. She was invested in the world and her faith. I was so lucky to have her as my mom, but of course, as a kid and a teen, I sometimes rebelled against all of this 'goodness!' Every single night of my life when she would say good night to anyone in our family she would say, "Sweet Dreams!"
Every morning, when she would wake us up, she'd say, "Rise and Shine!" Well, there were more than a few mornings when I didn't want to rise and I certainly didn't want to shine! But she insisted on cheery attitudes and approaching life with a smile, even on (maybe especially on) cleaning days! Those memories are etched into my being: the call to Rise and Shine every morning!
Blessed are the precious gifts we receive from loving folks of faith. Those gifts help me walk through even the hardest of days and I always feel mom and dad shining on me and helping me. They both loved nature! I used to be annoyed that they took more pictures of flowers than me!! HAHA! Now I get it! When I see beauty in the world, I feel them and I hear Rise and Shine!
Post script: I wrote this yesterday and realized when I woke this morning that I had left off one very important piece of information; one very important word!
Mom did not SAY Rise and Shine, Mom SANG Rise and Shine!

Karen, this is exquisitely composed. I love the striking orange against the pure white.

Sharon thanks so much for looking at my work and taking your time to read things I write . . . they are ramblings . . . but I find them interesting to go back years later and read! We will always be grateful for our blessings!
