Description
Harpers Ferry is an important site in American history. It is located where two rivers meet; The Potomac and the Shenandoah. George Washington chose this spot to build a US Armory. In the 1800s it had many factories that were part of the Industrial Revolution. Abolitionist John Brown took a stance here to fight slavery and bring tensions to a head leading to the Civil War. Brown and his followers raided the armory in October 1859 which was unsuccessful and led to the death of many of his men and his eventual trial and execution. There still stands the John Brown fort and also a John Brown Museum.
It makes me wonder why people were so brave back then to take such stands and be willing to die for the rights of other people. The world today still has horrible things happening to innocent victims and we go on with our lives. How will we be remembered by future Americans?
I really liked the composition of this scene and have it available in several versions which you can see in my Series Collection. I think this sepia version gives it a real vintage feel.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
