Description
Shhh! This lovely little butterfly doesn't want to be seen. Maybe if she hides behind a bright pink Cosmos flower, no one will notice!
Believe it of not! The name of this little yellow butterfly is: Little Yellow!! I thought it was some type of Sulphur butterfly. I had it identified by Butterflies and Moths of North America and learned about the Little Yellow Butterfly!
The scientific names is: Pyrisitia lisa. Identified by Boisduval & Leconte in 1830. It is a member of the Pieridae family and subfamily: Coliadinae. It is a small creature, with a wing span of 1 1/4 - 1 3/4 inches (3.2 - 4.4 cm).
I love the soft pastel lemon yellow coloring of these butterflies. . . . I have not seen any others, but this one. I am wondering, if through the years, I have seen more of these and just assumed it to be a Clouded Sulphur. I am glad to know that next time, I need to pay attention and get more pictures, because it just may be a Little Yellow Butterfly! Now, you too, can impress others with your butterfly knowledge!
