Description
To learn about your parents lives before you came along and changed everything is actually quite a special gift! This watercolor painting is by my dad, George Wood. It shows him "working" (that is him leaning against the truck with a hot beverage in his hand.) He worked with his father, Austin and his brother, Dick painting signs along the roadways back in the late 1940s. It had to be hard work, especially in extreme weather conditions. I have letters that my grandpa wrote to my grandma when he had to be gone for several days out of town to get a job completed. We take so much for granted now. He couldn't just drive home to Columbus, Ohio every day, or call. He was gone and came home when he could! My dad learned a lot from his father's example about honesty and hard work. My dad then passed all of that down to his children and grandchildren. For Christmas gifts one year, dad made copies of this painting and wrote a letter to each of his beloved grandchildren to share his history and memories of his time with his brother and father. This is one of the most special Christmas gifts any of them ever received and they are great treasures today.

Wow Karen!! What a tremendous gift of family history! LOVE this gorgeous work of your father's and I love the fantastic story as well!! It is wonderful the hear of families with so much love and family ties in these troubled days when all that seems to be more and more out dated and unpopular. f/l in a truly heart felt way!! :D

That is very cool when you can take a look back through the eyes of your father... with a new point of view.

Wonderful, vintage painting that gives us all a view into the past when integrity and a strong work ethic were common values. I love the story with it, too. Beautiful!
