Description
This painting is small, but very big in meaning. It is a sacred moment of prayer . . . and that is why my dad painted the young woman with her face hidden and her back towards us. It is a private time . . . a time of reflection, thanksgiving, enlightenment, forgiveness and intervention. For a long time I did not realize that.... I wondered what she was doing! Once my sister shared what she always knew about this art work, I can't believe I didn't see this all along! My original description follows......a better title for this piece would certainly be Girl in Prayer!
My Dad, George Wood painted this early in his life. I am really not sure when. It is a small oil painting on a canvas board. I like the mystery and interesting composition that he chose here. What is she doing? Is she up to something mysterious that she doesn't want us to see?
My sister wrote to me after I put this picture up on FAA and she told me that she always thought this girl was praying! Of course, I think she is right. Knowing my dad and the faith that was so strong his entire life, I now see what my dear sister saw all of her life..... a painting of prayer!
