Description
It wasn't until I got home and looked at this image on my big computer screen that I noticed how this guy was posing. He is a two-fisted balancing wonder! Of course, He was not actually walking, but my mind went to a fantasy tale of that being the case! Maybe this is a common way for them to handle perching on these thin dried grasses. When you live in the wild, I'm sure you have to be pretty creative to survive.
Red-wing-EDs are members of the Blackbirds and Orioles family.
They are a common bird in Ohio, as well as just about every state in the US. They breed in marshes, brushy swamps, hayfields; most commonly in freshwater marsh, but also in wooded or brushy swamps, rank weedy fields, hayfields, or upper edges of salt marsh. Red-wingeds often forage in other open habitats, such as fields and mudflats. Many times when driving through Ohio farmlands I will spot one sitting on fence posts all along the road. You can see flocks gather in farm fields and pastures. They certainly have a unique song. The red shoulder patches of the male, hidden under body feathers much of the time, are brilliantly displayed when he is singing. I really wish I could include sound with my images of these Red-winged Blackbirds, because that was a big part of the joy of these moments spent watching these wonderful creatures!

Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
