I've stumped more than a few people on my walks as well. specially when taking macro shots and laying down off the path. Sure I've scared a bunch of people...lol.. too funny.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder!! SO many years are visible, most likely this tree was around long before we were. It takes a special eye to see all the marvellous variations, and wonder what all the different shapes and lines mean, and to explain them so we get to be part of the wonderment. Such a story telling talent to go along with the photographic talent... Always enjoy the journey, thanks for sharing...:-)

Wonderful capture and story. I often wonder what others think when they see me snapping photos of seemingly obscure things.

Karen Adams replied:

Exactly . . . and as I get older and older, I really dare not think of what they must be thinking!!!

fantastic capture..Karen. If you live near the Ohio River Valley area I would say this was a sycamore stump based on the center cracking and the wood twist pattern in addition to the growth ring grain and the rather consistent color thoughout.

Karen Adams replied:

Chris, you MUST be right . . . we have a ton of huge Sycamores in our forest . . If I would have made a guess that is what I would have said . . . but you have named it on good authority! Thank you so much!
