Description
Over a month ago I went for a walk with my grandchildren. On our adventure, I noticed this very very cool tree stump. They thought it pretty boring and so we continued on our way and had a lot of fun with other things. . .But that tree stump stuck in my mind. I have previously admitted to being a little 'different,' some could say eccentric, I actually am happy with 'weird.' Just like college, admittance is acceptance, and I admit it and I accept the badge of being weird. . . . and so I set out on my own a few days ago with my camera to find that stump!
I worried that I would be disappointed when finally seeing it again, but happy to say I was not! It is next to a road and so as I bent over clicking away several cars drove past. I wonder if any of those folks walked by there some time later and stopped to see what in the world this lady was looking at?
But I was very intent on my mission and found several really fun angles that produced interesting shapes to me. I do not know what kind of tree this was. I do not know why it has all those tiny lines radiating from the center. I do not know what caused the jagged edge to protrude. I don't really know anything about this tree trunk, other than the fact that I like how it looks. . . . and other than that, I'm stumped!

I've stumped more than a few people on my walks as well. specially when taking macro shots and laying down off the path. Sure I've scared a bunch of people...lol.. too funny.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder!! SO many years are visible, most likely this tree was around long before we were. It takes a special eye to see all the marvellous variations, and wonder what all the different shapes and lines mean, and to explain them so we get to be part of the wonderment. Such a story telling talent to go along with the photographic talent... Always enjoy the journey, thanks for sharing...:-)

Wonderful capture and story. I often wonder what others think when they see me snapping photos of seemingly obscure things.
Karen Adams replied:
Exactly . . . and as I get older and older, I really dare not think of what they must be thinking!!!

fantastic capture..Karen. If you live near the Ohio River Valley area I would say this was a sycamore stump based on the center cracking and the wood twist pattern in addition to the growth ring grain and the rather consistent color thoughout.
Karen Adams replied:
Chris, you MUST be right . . . we have a ton of huge Sycamores in our forest . . If I would have made a guess that is what I would have said . . . but you have named it on good authority! Thank you so much!
