When I take my dog Sunshine for walks at a park near my house, we frequently see this wonderful sight, but I never have my camera with me. Today, after our three mile trek, I decided to drive back over with my camera! Of course, they were nowhere to be seen by then. I stood around, scared several frogs in the marshy bog. I could hear the blackbirds chirping calls, but I could not see them. Finally a couple came out from the dried weathered cattails. They either got tired of waiting for me to go away, or they decided I wasn't much of a threat. Even with that, they were not very cooperative. They would not let me get close, and if I did their beautiful red wings were not visible. I took a few pictures of a frog and some other birds and finally gave up and returned to my car.
As soon as I started up the engine, half a dozen male Red-wings flew over me and landed on the tall grasses in front of me. . . . so I went back out! They couldn't get rid of me that easily. . . ....

Hopefully, I will get around to that some...

Great splash of colour amongst the cattails. You certainly are persistent, and patient. I can imagine the people in their houses watching you stop, get out, get back in, start the car, get back out... lol I'd be scratching my head too. Great story too. So was it a Red WingED Blackbird?...:-)
Karen Adams replied:
Greg, you are so right! I had to laugh at myself because I am sure I looked foolish to anyone watching . . . but I'm used to that by now! Yes Red-wing-ED!!!
Cindy Treger
