Description
This is one of a series of images taken of some beautiful White Coneflower blooms in my garden in Ohio. I liked the different feel that came with changes in how the images were cropped. You can see all of these in my Gallery named "Series." A pure white flower in a garden is a bright spot amidst the bursts of colors found in a backyard Ohio garden. Birds, especially little Goldfinches and other songbirds, love these flowers and spend much time pulling the seeds out from the raised centers. Their common name is Coneflower, but many peoeple also know them by their proper name Echinacea. They are bright perennials, some of which are used in herbal remedies. Some people feel that taking some at the onset of a cold can help fight off the illness. But be careful with this, since some studies also show that use of this herbal remedy can lead to liver problems!
These flowers are easy to care for and relatively drought-tolerant. They are good for cut flowers and add beauty to any arrangement. Coneflowers are daisy-like with raised centers. I really love the purity and softness of the white petals contrasting with the spiky bold orange flower heads . . . and the added bonus of them serving as tiny natural bird feeders!
