This morning just about everything that could go wrong was going wrong. After dealing with several problems I went out back with my dog and looked around to enjoy the weather which was a bit overcast and cool for July. All of a sudden, I saw it! I knew right away it was a Zebra Swallowtail! I ran into the house and grabbed my camera (which I usually do keep right by the back door for just this reason.) I have only seen one three years ago, also out back. They are so beautiful! Obviously, their wings are black and white stripes like a zebra but their antennae are red and they have splashes of blue on the underside of their wings and their legs are a light blue as well! So beautiful!
I think because they are so striking, they are also very shy and pretty difficult to get a good picture of. I was so happy when he decided to rest in the mulch and give me a really good opportunity . This one is in perfect condition too. I am really hoping he (or she) comes back to visit more! It sure brightened my day!
