Description
11 of us went to the Hocking Hills on November 11th (11/11.) That wasn't planned, it just happened. Our family tries to go down there every year, but some years just get too busy. We waited a week too long this year, and so missed seeing the Autumn colors of the trees. This year you had to look fast to see it. As soon as the leaves finally started to change, strong winds blew through and most of them were blown right off the branches. It seems we have gone from the 90s of summer to the 20s of winter over a weekend!
Regardless of any of that, there is beauty to see in nature! The Great Creator does not give us what we are looking for, but instead blesses us with surprise gifts that keep us in awe and wonder. Our minds are far too small to imagine to wealth this earth holds for us . . . and so that is the magic of life that we should awaken every single day expecting great things and lay down every night grateful for all we have been given!

The Hocking Hills are located in the picturesque sandstone region of Southeastern Ohio. The State Park contains some of the most scenic areas in the entire state. It is beautiful throughout the year, but especially popular in the fall with the changing leaf colors. Hikers can enjoy the peaceful nature of rock outcrops, deep cool gorges, and waterfalls.
Ash Cave is one of our family favorites in the Hocking Hills. It is a very easy walk through beautiful hills and trees with sandstone cliffs lining the way. When we reach the cave, it is just as wonderful and magical as the first time we came so many years ago. There is a comfortable reassurance that time seems to stand still here. There is a gentle waterfall coming from high above us, splashing into a small pond, where skipping stones is always a temptation that just can't be ignored. There is such a quiet calm here that cannot be described in words. I only hope my image conveys some of that wonder and tranquility!

The lighting in the cave is perfect, Karen... as is your composition. I've seen Hocking Hills on the map, but have been too intent on getting to Cincinnati and surroundings to check it out. On my to-do list now. f/l

All the elements of this scene work so well together. F/L and my minimalism group POD for 11/14/18.
