As the title gives away, this is one of a series taken on a very cold, but sunny, Ohio winter's day.
My dad was a 'glass man.' For almost thirty years he worked at Federal Glass in Columbus, Ohio. He started out in the Art department, first designing the packaging to hold the glassware for sale and then moving up to actually designing some of the beautiful tableware that people still enjoy today, even thought the plant closed in the late 1970s. Part of his job entailed traveling to Europe to see hand-blown glass and styles there. He would come home with beautiful pieces of glass artwork to serve as inspiration. He won some awards for some of the innovations and styles he created (with the help of his co-workers he would insist I add!) So, growing up I would enjoy the sparkling beauty that would be carefully displayed around our small home.
Now, many of those treasures brighten my home and on this day, they literally did brighten the windowsill with lovely splas...
