Karen, you are a wonderful story teller. Your image came alive to me, with richness of the era gone by.

Wish I could edit - decided to come back to say I enjoyed your description, too.

Excellent composition - I like the thirds here in the window, siding, door with the chipping, peeling texture of the old paint uniting all three elements. This is my Pick of the Day in the Best of Minimalism in Photography group for October 7.

This is really, really good Karen! I just love the cracked and peeling paint...it ties in so well with the reflection of the tombstones in the window. Yes, everything decays on this planet. Sad but true. Oh Karen, I was just reading your description...how heartbreaking...to lose five children...no, I don't know how anyone could ever go on after that kind of trauma. The human spirit is unbelievably resilient, isn't it?

Artist's Description

This is a close-up of the old door and window to the past Forest Grove Cemetery office. . . . at least, that is what I assume this little white building to be. It stands back in the oldest section of the cemetery. Our family plot is near this where my parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents rest. Many of the markers date back into the 1800s. One stone always causes me to stop and mourn for the family. It is a marker of the children of one husband and wife...a son died in 1865, age 3, a daughter in 1886 age 21, a son in 1887, age 26, a daughter in 1893, age 28 and a daughter in 1894 age 23. I always wonder how do you go on if you are the mom or dad. Life was so hard!

In the window are reflections of a couple of the taller markers, reflecting the sun as it set in the West....reminders of lives we only can imagine.

About Karen Adams

Karen Adams

'When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.' ~ Ansel Adams . . . . . . . . . . Please visit my sites at https://pixels.com/art/artist+karen+adams and https://designerprints.com/art/artist+karen+adams "Look at everything as though you were seeing it for the first time or the last time. Then your time on Earth will be filled with glory" ~ Betty Smith, American author (1896-1972) I have always loved taking pictures. I majored in Fine Arts at Ohio University in Athens where I concentrated on painting and ceramics. Photography was a hobby I loved, but have still never taken a class. Hopefully, I will get around to that some...
