My mother-in-law gave me seedlings of these tall purple verbena twenty some years ago. They really took hold that first summer and ever since the seeds have spread around my garden and they spring up everywhere now. They are butterfly magnets! If you look in my butterfly gallery, you will be amazed how many of my butterfly portraits are of them balancing on a tall purple verbena! I thought this shot was nice, because it celebrates the beauty of this common flower that I usually overlook in my quest for a butterfly shot . . . but without this flower's steady countenance I would not have the numbers of butterflies I so enjoy.
