Artist's Description
George Wood was my dad. He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1928. When he and his brother were in their late teens, they caught butterflies and mounted them in beautiful displays. Many were framed images with soft blue cotton skies and dried plants with one or two butterflies permanently sealed in these lovely scenes. Dad knew the names of every butterfly and bird we ever saw together. He loved their beauty. He loved nature and the earth.
His love spread to me and in 2011 when I spotted a Zebra Swallowtail in my garden, I was completely hooked on butterflies! I started trying to capture with my camera all of the beauty that my dad had once actually captured (although he felt a bit guilty about that in later years!)
I took thousands of butterfly photos. when I would visit mom and dad at their retirement home, she would look at them and say how pretty they were. Dad would study each one and tell me their names and what he loved about each. In 2012, Dad told me he wante...
