Description
I love the poppies in my garden. They seem to glow as they stand tall above the other spring blooming flowers. I remember the gorgeous fields of red poppies when traveling through Europe years ago and being absolutely amazed at the profusion of color.
Well today, as I worked for hours in my yard I was aware of several Poppy petals that had fallen to the ground. At first they were fresh and soft. Eventually as each hour passed, the petals changed dramatically, getting shriveled and pale at the edges. It was as if I could see the color and life draining from them. I took shots throughout the day to document this metamorphosis. This image was taken somewhat early in that time frame. I loved how they seemed to remain beautiful in every stage as they slowly faded away. Nature is always teaching me lessons. Nature tells me to appreciate today, this very moment . . . to be thankful for what is in front of me . . . for the gifts at hand . . . and to appreciate age from beginning to end.
This image makes me think of Georgia O'Keeffe (one of my all-time favorite artists!) . . . and I also think of Pop Art; a celebration of the common. I hope you see the beauty that popped out at me!
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much. Be safe and be kind to one another!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
