Description
I am not a car person, but I sure love this old photo that my dad included in our family history and genealogy that he so carefully researched in the days before the internet! It is a treasure for sure. The description that accompanies this image states:
First automobile in Plain City, Ohio, July 20, 1900. The local newspaper calls it a "Locomobile."
The owner of the car is Joe Kahler (the man with the mustache) and bachelor uncle of Frank Kahler (my great grandfather.) Joe was one of the co-owners of Kahler Bros. Grocery in 1890s.
The driver of the car is Will Justice, who married my great grandfather's sister, Ada. Joe Kahler and Will drove to Chicago to purchase the car. It took a week to make the return trip.
In the background standing in the doorway on the right is Frank. He and Will operated this clothing store; Kahler & Justice. My family roots are deep in this quaint old town just outside Columbus. My parents are buried in the cemetery there, next to my mom's parents and Frank & Jennie Kahler.
