Description

This is a special plant to me for several reasons. Of course, it has such beautiful blossoms that come faithfully each year without fail, just like clock work! My family always called these houseplants Christmas cacti, but this one is really more of a Thanksgiving Cactus. It always blooms just before Thanksgiving and so we learned to respect its wishes and enjoy it's fall splendor!

The other reason this one holds a place in my heart is that this is one of mom's beloved houseplants. She sure had a green thumb. I hate to say that I have not kept all of her plants alive as the years have passed. A move to a new house made matters worse! It is always painful to admit that I have lost another one . . . but this one refuses to give in! Even from the beginning I have not treated this one well! In moving mom and dad to a retirement center, this little guy was somehow overlooked nestled under their old crabapple in the backyard. Luckily for this cactus, the house sat empty for months and I finally discovered it just before the first heavy frost.

It was pretty dried up and very sorry looking for sure. I then did my very best to care for it and get it back healthy. Now it thrives in a sunny bay window in my new home serving as a living beautiful reminder of my home with mom and dad and our home long ago.
