Description
Grief
Grief is a cold dark lonely place,
It is solitude in a crowded room
It is an ache
It is a pain
It grabs and shakes
It comes in waves
It is frigid black and white
It echoes of yesterday.
Grief is a wringing of the heart
It is a lifetime love gone
It is an empty echo of old laughter
It is melancholy melodies
It steals in quietly at night
It wakes early in the morning
It hangs around like an unwelcome guest
It is relentless.
Grief is seeing a book of life
It is past, present, future
It is peaceful thoughts
It is stabbing realization
It is feeling your father's embrace, but
It is a stranger's hug
It is finality
It is the epilogue.

I wrote this and took this picture a month after my dad's death. Funny how it really brings back to me how I felt those years ago. Art is a release and expression of humanity. I celebrate and miss my dad every single day! (2019)

Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!

Karen -- putting art aside for the moment, this is a wonderful tribute to your dad. I'm sure that he would only want you to know that he's okay, that he misses you and he wants only that you remember the happy times. He would like you to throw that grief out that window and be happy in life, knowing that someday you will all be together.
Karen Adams replied:
Thank you so much for your kind words,Bill. It has been four months now and I am feeling him with me throughout the days. My mom died a month ago, so I know they are together and happy...a bluebird told me so! I really appreciate you thinking of me!

Wow, Karen, now THIS has brought tears to my eyes.....What a profound and beautiful expression of your grief....both the image and the words.... fv
Karen Adams replied:
I'm sorry, Laurie to cause tears, but I appreciate that my work touched you. It is certainly from a real depth in me that it came, and it helped me get through the darkest times.

Hello Karen...I have been thinking of you as I know this time of year is very difficult when you have lost a loved one. I hope that you have found some comfort in the beautiful memories you have of your dad. This image so perfectly illustrates the feeling of grief, and your words strike a resonant chord for me. Very sensitive, emotional work, my dear friend. Sending hugs and blessings your way...L
