Description
This is another scene from the milkweed plants around my mailbox. This is mid-June in Ohio. On this evening, I counted five good-sized Monarch caterpillars munching away on these big leaves! I was so happy! Milkweed is a wild looking plant. It is called a weed, and I am thrilled to see many parts of it being devoured by little critters! It has a wonderful scent, and I think the flowers are very pretty. But the reason I LOVE Milkweed is because Monarchs need them to exist and survive. Milkweed is poisonous to other creatures and since Monarch caterpillars feed from them, the Monarch butterfly is then poisonous to their predators.
So I love Milkweed plants and during this time of COVID and quarantines, the thought entered my mind that these big caterpillars were looking to hide from birds and creatures that are on the hunt to eat them. They are sheltering in their place! May we all be safe and grow to be beautiful butterflies!
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
