Description
Dad was a wood carver. He started out just whittling. It seemed to really start once we kids were grown and he and mom volunteered to live for a year at Henderson Settlement and then later when they would go on camping trips together. He would whittle flowers out of sticks and his abilities grew from there. I think God directed Dad's hands many times and especially with this, maybe my favorite work of all by him. I never did hear if he worked from a picture of a nativity or if this was completely from his mind and heart. He certainly had a deep faith and I believe he just felt with his heart and spirit what to carve here. The details amaze me.
I have worked on many differing versions of this shot and others trying to really convey the deep beauty in this piece. I think I will continue with more as time goes by. It looks so different in the morning, afternoon and evening...daylight, candlelight and electric! So it has a life all to itself and its meaning and power lift me up every time I look at it! I feel His presence and his presence which is LOVE.
For all the versions of this , please look in my "Series Gallery" and also the one called "Dad!"
