Description
As my little dog and I were on one of our daily walks through another Ohio winter day, I spotted something glistening on the rocks next to the creek. There is a small rushing waterfall there, that is determined to not freeze over no matter how cold the weather. Huge icicles cling to its side and the rock walls all around, but the frigid water keeps flowing. So there is ice in many spots, but none on the rocks and sticks that border the torrent; except for this one frozen bubble! It caught my eye from quite a distance since it is about 2" in size. "What in the world is this?" I wondered. Possibly it formed on an overhead tree and broke off as the weight became too much for the twig to hold on any longer, or maybe it formed on the ground somehow. I really don't know. And as I pondered this mystery, I had to smile at myself. Nature had taught me another lesson. Sometimes its not for me to understand, or know the hows and the ways, but to accept what life is, accept what is truth right in front of me and that is enough. So I give you my frozen fruit/bubble mystery!
What in the World
What in the world could this be?
Quietly staring back at me
Just on a walk with my dear little pet
Avoiding icy water, trying not to get wet.
Rushing water and frosted rocks glisten with ice
But this little gem made me look twice
Sitting all alone on the creek bed side
Making no pretense to try to hide.
The winter sun shone bright through the grey
It stopped me from hurrying on my way
The sparkle of this jewel could not be ignored
“Come closer, come closer” it implored.
So we walked over to the water’s edge
Being careful of the slippery ledge
This frozen fruit from an overhanging tree
Glistened and sparkled and said “Look at me.”
“Why do you hurry so fast and so quick?
Living in each moment is the trick
To finding peace, beauty and what is true
Slow down, and look at the world around you!”
