Description
I really get excited when I see a Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly in my Ohio garden. Although they are not generally rare, they do not seem to frequent my wildflower garden. Today was a hot muggy day and I was tired after a busy morning, but I went out to explore before relaxing to watch an EPL soccer game. When I saw this beauty, I knew I was going to miss the beginning of the game! It was in really good shape, but missing its 'tails.' Those actually serve as break-away escape features and so they actually are fine without them. This guy probably had a close call though!
I love the iridescent blue or blue-green on the hindwing which is also seen on the underside of the hindwing with a submarginal row of 7 round orange spots in this gorgeous iridescent blue field. Also notice, the body of this butterfly is the same lovely shimmering blue! There are only a few things that will keep me away from watching a soccer game . . . and a Pipevine Swallowtail is one of those things!
This Pipevine was balanced on a peach colored zinnia flower in front of a Yucca plant. I really like the lines and pattern that yucca provided for my background.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
